Meet Recap

Colerain defeats district rival Northwest 61-14 on senior night!
Seniors Anthony Fries and Christopher Albert were recognized for their contribution to the Colerain Wrestling program. The team celebrated by putting on a dominating performance and a night the seniors will never forget.
Entering the match the Cardinals knew that the seniors needed to step up and wrestle the tough matches that could swing the momentum.
The night started with five straight victories: Cornett(106 lbs.) and Byers(126 lbs.) recording pins, Carraher(120 lbs.) with a major decision, and Cronin(113 lbs.) and McCoy(132 lbs.) receive forfeits. The score was 28-0 before Northwest managed to record a technical fall from their returning state qualifier at 138 lbs.
Romero (145 lbs.) wins by pin and Northwest records a pin of their own at 152 pounds to bring the team score to Colerain 34 – Northwest 11.
With six matches remaining Colerain was primed to represent their seniors. With the momentum building and the Knights on their heels Signey(160 lbs.) earns a quick pin to springboard senior Anthony Fries into the spotlight.
Anthony Fries(170 lbs.) wrestled a grueling scoreless first period before the action picked up. After a number of exciting exchanges, Anthony found the advantageous position and earned the pin for the team. Pace Jr. (182 lbs.) then quickly pinned his opponent to carry the momentum for senior Christopher Albert at 195 lbs.
In the 195 pound bout the knights fielded a district qualifier from last year in attempt to halt the senior’s night, but with all of the momentum on the Cardinals side Christopher Albert was able to win a 7-5 decision.
Northwest was able to scrape a 7-1 decision in the 220 pound match but conceded a forfeit to Bramkamp in the 285 pound weight class. The final score was 61 – 14 where the Cardinals showed their tremendous poise and preparation outworking district rival Northwest.
Up next the Cardinals will compete Saturday(1/30) at Anderson on their senior night with hopes to spoil their celebration. Wrestling begins at 6:00pm.
