A tight game was decided in the eighth inning as the Cardinals fell to Springboro 7-6 in eight innings on Monday.
Camryn Huber racked up four RBIs on two hits for the Cardinals. She doubled in the second and fifth innings.
Even though Piffner allowed six runs over eight innings she still recorded the victory. Piffner struck out 12, walked three and gave up nine hits.
Springboro was sparked by Webber and Geraci, who teamed up for seven hits and six RBIs. Brittany Smith was charged with the loss.
The Cardinals jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second. The Colerain’s rally started when Angel Ehrenschwender singled. A single by Smith then moved Ehrenschwender from first to second. Camryn Huber doubled, scoring Ehrenschwender. The Cardinals then tacked on more runs when Smith and Huber scored on a two-run single by Madison Boomer.
Springboro got two-run boosts in each of the third, fifth and sixth. In the third, Springboro scored on an error, bringing home Piffner.
It didn’t take long for the Cards to respond as they scored three runs of their own in the fifth. Colerain scored on a three-run double by Camryn Huber.
The lead stayed with Springboard after the eighth, when it scored one run on an RBI single by Webber.
