Colerain goes deep 3 times in 10-7 win over Middletown.
Big blasts bring people to their feet and Colerain certainly provided a bunch of entertainment on Monday three home runs drove the Cardinals to a 10-7 victory in seven innings over Middletown.
Home runs for Colerain came when Brittany Smith homered in the second inning, Madison Boomer homered in the second inning, and Hayley Roberts homered in the seventh inning.
Madison Boomer racked up four RBIs on two hits for Colerain . She homered in the second inning and doubled in the third inning.
Smith got it done in the circle on the way to a win. She allowed three runs over four innings. Smith struck out seven, walked three and gave up only three hits.
Colerain never surrendered the lead after the second inning, scoring five runs on an RBI double by Camryn Huber and two solo home runs.
Middletown got one-run rallies in the second inning and the fifth. In the second, Middletown scored on a passed ball, plating Ebony Sinclair.
Colerain piled on four more runs in the top of the third. Sara Morehead started the inning with a double, scoring Angel Ehrenschwender.
Three runs in the bottom of the fourth helped Middletown close its deficit to 9-4. A two-run double by Eva Reyes-Smith and an RBI single by Patrick triggered Middletown’s comeback. But, Tara Sprandel got Ashley Deaton to to end the inning.
After pushing across one run in the bottom of the fifth, Middletown faced just a 9-5 deficit. An error gave Middletown life. Sprandel ended the inning by getting Taylor Underhill to strike out.
Two Middletown runs crossed the plate in the bottom half of the seventh, making the score 10-7. A wild pitch and a walk by Underhill set off Middletown rally. Finally, Smith got Underhill to to end the game.
The Cardinals move to 2-4 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. Colerain takes on Hamiltom Big Blue tomorrow in another GMC game at Colerain with a 5:00 start time.
