Normally setting the Colerain Varsity football schedule is a pain-staking process that takes months to complete. Most often we are waiting until the announcement of the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown in Spring each year. But for 2017, we have it all wrapped up by Christmas.
(SPOILER ALERT: You’ll want to clear your calendar for Friday Sep 1, 2017 right now!)
Presenting your 2017 Colerain Football Varsity Schedule
For the first time in GMC league history, each team in the league will play 8 regular season conference games, leaving only 1 GMC team out of the rotation and allowing for only 2 non-conference games during the year.
In 2017, the Princeton Vikings (D2) are the lone team in conference that will not appear on Colerain’s schedule as they work towards their 18th Consecutive GMC Title, 19th overall.
No one in the state of Ohio has a tougher in-state slate to begin the year. The Cardinals will open the season in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown against the 3-Time defending Division II State Champion LaSalle Lancers. The Cards beat LaSalle at home in 2016 by the score of 6-0.
If that wasn’t enough, the Cardinals open their home schedule in week 2 with payback on their minds as the 2016 Ohio Division I State Champion St. Xavier Bombers pay a visit to 8801 Cheviot Road. After beating St. Xavier in the regular season at Ballaban Field, the Bombers overcame a 16 point deficit late in the 3rd quarter to beat Colerain in the 2nd round of the playoffs this fall to advance on and eventually win the State Championship.
The GMC portion of the schedule follows with home games against 2016 playoff participants Sycamore & Mason, as well as Lakota East and Lakota West. The road schedule includes another 2016 playoff qualifier in Fairfield, as well as early trips to Middletown and Hamilton, finishing the season in week 10 at Oak Hills.
Another great year of Colerain football will be here before you know it! Good luck to the team as they prepare this offseason!
