Northwest High School
Colerain High School
It what can only be described as an excruciating loss, the Colerain Boys Bowling team lost by 3 pins to district rival Northwest (10-1) on Tuesday Jan. 10.
Brandon “Nuts” Nuttle (’17) bowled out of his mind to lead the Cards with a 469 match total, trailing Northwest Freshman phenom Travis Boehl by only one pin. The total of 469 for Nuttle was 45 pins better than his previous season-high of 424 set way back in the first match of year vs. Talawanda on Nov. 28.
The match was decided in the baker games as the Cards couldn’t quite hold on to finish off the win. With only a 10 pin lead going into Baker games, the Knights rolled a 246 to Colerain’s 183. The rest was a back and forth affair that left our Cards 4 pins short of a win.
Coach Potzner said afterwards, “It was so close and I was a little worried because Northwest averages more than us in bakers by 11 or so pins. But that being said my boys bowled very well and I am proud of them!”
Colerain moves to 5-3 on the year, 2-1 in conference. The boys will be back at it on Wed. Jan 11 at home vs. Middletown (5-1, 2-1) which is also expected to be a very close contest.
