Lakota West High School
Colerain High School
It was Senior Night at Colerain High School on Friday night and the Colerain Cardinal Varsity Cardinals welcomed the Firebirds of Lakota West to The Cage at Cardinal Stadium.
The Cards jumped out early 5 minutes into the game when Sr. QB Gunnar Leyendecker found Jr. JJ Davis in the left flat for a short gain that Davis then turned into a 75 yard TD run after the catch. Colerain went up 7-0 and never looked back.
Jr. Syncere Jones added a 13-yard TD run in the second quarter to put the Cards up 14-3.
With just under 6 minutes to go in the half, Jr. Deante Smith-Moore punched it in from 2 yards out and the Cards were up 21-3.
After Lakota West recovered a batted down lateral pass, they scored from 17 yards out to cut the lead to 21-10. The Cards got the ball back and on the last play of the 1st half, JR Kicker Chris Mangold did Chris Mangold things and booted a 41 yard FG to end the half with the Cards up 24-10.
The third quarter was the Deante Smith-Moore show. DSM 2.0 opened up the second half scoring with a 19-yard TD run and then added a 3-yard TD run later in the quarter. Not to outdone, University of Cincinnati recruit SR Ja’Von Hicks returned a Lakota West punt 73-yards for a TD to put the Cardinal up 45-10. The running clock was now on!
Final score of the night for the Cards was a 4-yard TD pass to SR. Dan Bolden, his 2nd TD of the year.
The Cardinals move to 7-2 on the year and remain undefeated in conference. In other GMC news, Fairfield lost at Mason which gives Colerain their 18th Consecutive GMC championship outright, regardless of what happens next week at Oak Hills.
