The Cardinals traveled to Middletown on Friday night to battle the Middies in GMC play.
The Cardinals dominated time of position and total yards in the first half but had several drives stall and only could muster 14 points going into halftime. The Middies score came on an 85 yard touchdown pass that was nearly intercepted by DB Brandon Sinclair (’21).
In the second half, the Cardinals quickly turned the tide. The Middies started with the ball but quickly turned it over as DB Deshawn Pace (’20) got his first interception of the year. As it turns out, Deshawn wasn’t finished as the Cardinals displayed a new look on offense with Pace in the backfield taking direct snaps and finding running lanes. At the 9:07 mark, he took it in to put the Cards up another TD.
Four minutes later, QB Freddie Jones (’21) took the ball around right end and into the endzone for another score.
On the Middies next position, RB Josh Bryant showed off his skills with a 34 yard TD run to narrow the Cardinal lead. However, the third quarter scoring wasn’t complete as the Cardinals were finally hitting on all cylinders offensively. Jaylen Thomas bowled over several would-be tacklers and took the ball straight up the gut for a 27 yard TD run to add to the Cardinals lead.
Finally, P/RB/Jack-Of-All-Trades Lawson Sandusky (’20) took a pitch 14 yards in for the final score of the night.
With the win, the Cardinals return home winners of 78 consecutive GMC games and looking to continue their winning ways this Friday against the Sycamore Aviators who suffered a tough loss to the Mason Comets, 21-14.
